Buckeyes have nearly perfect Day 1 @ ITA Midwest; Day 1 Recap

The OSU Buckeyes went perfect in the singles main draw, going 6-0 and in doubles the Buckeyes went 1-1. Number 1 seed Peter Kobelt led the way for the Buckeyes defeating Dave Bacalla of Valparaiso 6-3, 7-6. Kobelt will play Axel Lagerlof of Northern Illinois in the 2nd round Saturday. Freshman Marko Goles-Babic had his first match in a Buckeyes uniform defeating another player from Valparaiso, Jeffrey Schorsch 6-4, 6-4. Chris Diaz and Hunter Callahan who are also seeded for the Buckeyes (4th and 9th respectively) also advanced to the 2nd round, along with teammates Kevin Metka and Constantin Christ. Top Notre Dame players Greg Andrews (2 seed) and Quentin Monaghan (5 seed) easily advanced to the 2nd round, and Michigan State's Aaron Pfister (7 seed) and Drew Lied (8 seed) also advanced. Pfister will play Illinois' Alex Jesse and Lied will play Cleveland State's Matt Kuekler, after Lied survived a marathon match with Notre Dame's Alex Lawson, surving 6-7, 7-5, 7-6.
