Kozlov Highest Seed Remaining; Eddie Herr Day 3 Recap

Another top seed went out on Wednesday, as 2nd seeded Johan Taltot of France got knocked out in the second round by Guy Iradukunda of Burundi 6-4, 6-4. Stefan Kozlov (USA) advanced to the round of 16, making him the highest seed remaining in the field (3 seed). He will play fellow American (and qualifier) 6'8" Reilly Opelka. Opelka is one of four qualifers in the round of 16, as he is also joined by Matias Zukas (ARG), Marko Osmakcic (SUI) and Catalin Mateas (USA). At least one qualifier will be in the quarterfinals, as Zukas and Osmakcic play each other in the round of 16. Other Americans advancing are Michael Mmoh, Francis Tiafoe and Deiton Baughman. Mmoh will be taking on US Open Boys Junior Doubles Champ Kamil Majchrzak (POL), Tiafoe will be taking on Iradukunda and Baughman will be taking out 10th seeded Lucas Miedler (AUT). Andrey Rublev (RUS), who won the F31 Futures at Bolletieri is still in the draw after a 2nd round win over Jordi Arconada (ARG) in 3 sets. Sameer Kumar unfortunately couldn't following up on beating the top seed, as Zukas defeated him 7-5, 6-2.

In the doubles, the Polish team of Phillip Gresk and Jan Zielinski knocked World number 1 Alexander Zverev (GER) out of the tournament entirely (for both singles and doubles) as him and partner Andrey Rublev lost in 3 sets. The 2 seeded pair of Filippo Baldi and Lucas Meideler escaped a 3 set win over Deiton Baughman and Weigiang Zheng (CHN). The American teams of Daniel Kerznerman/Spencer Papa, Michael Mmoh/Francis Taifoe, and AJ Catanzariti/Taylor Fritz are all in the quarterfinals as well. Stefan Kozlov and partner Omar Jasika (AUS) advanced to the quarterfinals with a 3 set win.
