American Boys win 5 matches, Kozlov going home early; US Open Junior Recap

After the 5th seed Stefan Kozlov got beat convincingly on Sunday to Austrian Lucas Miedler, him and Croatian Borna Coric teamed up for doubles as the number 1 seeds in the tournament on Tuesday. Once again, Kozlov went down as the team of Martin Redlicki (USA) and Kamil Majchraz (POL) upset the 1 seeds in 3 sets.

In the singles, the American boys had a good day as 3 advanced to the 3rd round and 2 to the second round. Kalamazoo champ Collin Altamirano kept his junior winning streak alive as he knocked off 12th seed Karen Khachonov 6-4, 6-4. Altamirano will now play fellow American and UCLA commit MacKenzie McDonald in the third round. Although McDonald faltered in KZoo, his win list this summer includes Nicholas Mahut and Steve Johnson, so McDonald is coming in prepared. Martin Redlicki before his big doubles win also advanced to the 3rd round, where he will now have to play top seeded Alexander Zverev from Germany. Will he be able to knock the 1 seed out in both singles and doubles?

New Yorker Noah Rubin took out German Hannes Wanger easily, as UCLA commit Gage Brymer also advanced to the 2nd round. Rubin will have to play 2nd seeded Gianluigi Quinzi (The Junior Wimbledon Champ) and Brymer will have to take on 14 seed Roman Safiullin from Russia.

Aussie wildcard Thanasi Kokkinakis won handily in the first round in his quest to win his first junior grandslam. He will play 11 seed Nicolas Jarry from Chile (who I was surprised beat American Ernesto Escobedo).

Junior Wimbledon Runner Up Hyeon Chung lost Russian Andrey Rublev 6-4, 6-4.

I went 17-3 on Tuesday, I am now 28-12. Here are my picks for Wednesday:
Kokkinakis vs. Jarry
Rublev vs. Halys
Rubin vs. Quinzi
Matos vs. Nishoika
Coric vs. Zheng
Miedler vs. Kim
Safiullin vs. Brymer
Haertis vs. Panta

The Men's Singles recap/preview will be out around 11am

Have a Great Day,
Fry That Chicken
