Rain wipes out most matches in New York; US Open Junior Recap

While the rain washed out most matches, top seeded Alexander Zverev from Germany took advantage of the weather towards the beginning of the day to beat American qualifier Taylor Fritz 6-3, 7-6. Zverev will play Gerardo Lopez Villasenor from Mexico in the 2nd round. Also beating the rain was 2013 Junior French Open champion and 3rd seeded Christian Garin from Chile. Despite his seeding, he faced a stern task in playing the Kalamazoo Runner-Up Jared Donaldson, who was in this tournament on a wildcard. After losing a close tiebreaker in the 1st set, Donaldson came back to win the second 6-4. After that Garin took over, eventually going on to win the match 7-6, 4-6, 6-0. He will have a tough battle in Swedish player Elias Ymer in the 2nd Round. Ymer is unseeded due to him playing many professional tournaments instead of junior events.

On Tuesday, the completion of the 1st round of singles will take place along with the start of the 2nd round. In the afternoon, the doubles will begin also.
