Davis Cup Draws Announced for 2014

Not too long after the World Group Playoffs and the World Group Semifinals, the World Group draw was made earlier this morning.

Here are the first round matchups (In order of how they appear on the draw):
Home Team Listed First
Czech Republic vs. Netherlands
Japan vs. Canada
Germany vs. Spain
France vs. Australia
USA vs. Great Britain
Argentina vs. Italy
Kazakhstan vs. Belgium
Serbia vs. Switzerland

There are some very intriguing first round matches here in the World Group. First, as an American I love the USA draw. They play Great Britain, who is essentially all Andy Murray in the first round. Murray will most likely play 2 singles rubbers and the doubles, but with the Bryan Brothers (I would assume) playing doubles, the key to Great Britain is winning the 2 singles matches that Murray is not featured in. As of now, Isner and Querrey would play the singles for USA, so if all goes well they will win this tie. Looking ahead, the Americans would most likely play Argentina in the next round, who is the lacking strength in their lineup without Juan Martin Del Potro as of late. Especially if the Bryan Brothers snap their Davis Cup losing streak, I believe the Americans will at least make the semifinals.

Another intriguing first round match features Switzerland facing Serbia. In the past, Roger Federer (Switzerland) and Novak Djokovic (Serbia) primarily have been automatics wins for their two squads. But now, they will play each other in the singles and this could go either way. Also another wildcard thrown into the mix, Stanislas Wawrinka can make some noise in this tie, especially against Djokovic. Wawrinka has taken Djokovic to 5 sets in their past two meetings, so could this be the time to finally come up victorious? I would still give the edge to Serbia, but as the 2 seeds this won't be an easy tie for them.

I am already looking forward to this for next year and I can't wait.
