And Then There Were 4...Americans Remaining; US Open Juniors Recap

Americans Noah Rubin and Gage Brymer were both looking to secure their spots Wednesday for the 3rd round of the US Open. They were both given tall orders as they had to play seeded players. Even worse for Rubin, he had to play the Wimbledon Junior Champion. Rubin didn't back down from this fight though, playing a close match with Italy's Gianluigi Quinzi. Quinzi eventually went on to win 6-3, 6-4 against the New Yorker.

UCLA Commit Gage Brymer had to take on 14 seeded Roman Safiullin from Russia. After winning the first set, Brymer was down 5-6 in the second set when Safiullin retired. Due to this, Brymer will be next up to face Gianluigi Qunizi in the third round.

Thanasi Kokkinakis continued his run at the US Open by defeating 11 seed Nicolas Jarry handily 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles action, the team of Michael Redlicki and Kamil Majchrzak backed up their win against the 1 seeds, beating the champions of the 16&Under Doubles at Kalamazoo (Taylor Fritz and Anudeep Kodali). The team of Thanasi Kokkinakis and Gianluigi Quinzi in my mind is the team to beat, even though they are only the 8 seeds. Both teams are now in the quarterfinals.

The All-American showdown of Kalamazoo Champion Collin Altamirano and Western & Southern Open Qualifier MacKenzie McDonald just got added a new twist today. Their 3rd round match-up will be first on Louis Armstrong Stadium tomorrow morning (the 2nd biggest stadium at the US Open). Hopefully there will be live footage online and I will certainly be watching that.

I went 7-1 on my picks on Wednesday, here are my picks for Thursday:
Altamirano vs. McDonald
Zverev vs. Redlicki
Brymer vs. Quinzi
Halys vs. Nishoika
Geens vs. Garin
Coric vs. Panta
Miedler vs. Kokkinakis
Taltot vs. Medvedev

Have a Good Night,
Fry That Chicken
